The European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 co-financed programme “International Police Cooperation and Combating Crime” aims to to strengthen the cooperation of law enforcement authorities in preventing and combating economic crimes in Latvia.

Within the framework of the programme, the State Revenue Service implements 2 projects:

Aim and description of the project

To improve the prevention and combating of crime.

The SRS will develop a common criminal intelligence data exchange system and will prepare information analysts and experts in special tasks.

Common criminal intelligence data exchange system will include a digital data analytics tool and a digital support system of the National Criminal Intelligence Model of SRS, which will be connected to the State Police Database.

The exchange of criminal intelligence between law enforcement authorities will make a significant contribution to preventing and detecting criminal offences, both nationally and internationally.

Duration: The planned duration of the project is 46 months.

Financing Partners

The total eligible costs of this project are EUR 2 197 000; The financing of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism is 85 % or EUR 1 867 450 and the state budget co-financing 15 % or EUR 329 550. Programme operator is the Republic of Latvia.

The Ministry of Interior, the international partner organisation is the Council of Europe; Local partners – State Police.

Aim and description of the project

To increase the effectiveness of preventing and combating economic crime at the Terehova border crossing point by improving the knowledge and skills of customs and border control authorities, in areas such as coordination and inter-service cooperation, and by strengthening the capacity of the authorities responsible for combating cross-border economic crime at the EU external border.

The project aims to improve the infrastructure at the Terehova border crossing point for more efficient customs control, as well as safer and more convenient conditions for border crossings.

Within the framework of the project, customs and border guard specialists working at the border will participate in joint exercises, thus strengthening inter-institutional cooperation and coordination. The Customs Canine Unit, in turn, will rebuild premises in Rezekne and purchase new training tools and equipment for training needs.

Duration: The planned duration of the project is 42 months.

The total eligible cost of the project is EUR 2 585 935; The financing of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism is 85 % or EUR 2 198 045 and the state budget co-financing 15 % or EUR 387 890. SRS partners within the project will be the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and SJSC “State Real Estate”.
